John Elstad

John Elstad is a graduate student in the History Department at CU Denver. His emphasis of study is Twentieth Century European history. The idea for an essay on United States

– Pakistan covert diplomatic relations during the Soviet – Afghan conflict originated from a course taken earlier in the Graduate History Program, Weapons of Mass Destruction taught by Dr. Greg Whitesides. Elstad’s primary research during the course brought to light recently declassified Central Intelligence Agency documents detailing U.S. weapon sales to Pakistan and U.S. intelligence community assessments of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program during the 1980s. His paper was submitted for a course in Global History taught by Dr. Ryan Crewe.
